Two Options For A Follower Of Christ

As a follower of Christ, I have two options as to how I will live my life:

1. By the “clock” — That is, manage my life by such external forces as my

Appointments

Schedule

Goals

Activities

2. By the “compass” — That is, lead my life by such internal values as my

Calling

Vision

Values

Mission

Direction

Our struggles come when we sense a gap between the clock and the compass; when what we do doesn’t contribute to the values we hold most dear. To help determine whether you are a slave to the clock or are guided by the compass, take a few minutes to prayerfully evaluate and answer the following questions:

  • What is my calling in life?
  • What is my vision?
  • What are my core values?
  • What is my mission in life?
  • What is my direction?
  • Can I defend how I answered the above questions Biblically?

It is God’s intention that we are guided primarily by our inner “compass” when it is based on the leading of the Spirit in accordance with the truth and authority of God’s Word:

“Look carefully then how you walk! Live purposely and worthily and accurately, not as the unwise and witless, but as wise (sensible, intelligent people), making the very most of the time [buying up each opportunity], because the days are evil. Therefore do not be vague and thoughtless and foolish, but understanding and firmly grasping what the will of the Lord is.” (Ephesians 5:15-17 – Amplified)

Devotion to the Word of God

“Thy words were found, and I did eat them; and thy word was unto me the joy and rejoicing of mine heart; for I am called by thy name, O Lord God of hosts.” (Jeremiah 15:16) KJV

When I discovered your words, I devoured them. They are my joy and my heart’s delight, for I bear your name, O LORD God of Heaven’s Armies. (Jeremiah 15:16) NLT

Jeremiah was devoted to the Word of God.

This verse shows his great devotion to the Word and the resulting effects which included his call into service. To look into the details of this verse about Jeremiah’s devotion to the Word, we note his pursuit, partaking, pleasure, and placement.

Pursuit.

“Thy words were found.” (KJV) “I discovered your words” (NLT)

You will not find the Word unless you look for it. This says you will not learn much Scripture if you do not study it. “Search the Scriptures” (John 5:39) is one of the keys to finding great truths in the Word. Our lack of learning of the Word is often a lack of industry in pursuing the Word. “Thy words were found” also says that when one moves to a new community, he needs to look for a church where the Word is preached faithfully. Do not settle in a church where the Word is not preached.

Partaking.

“I did eat them.” (KJV) “I devoured them.” (KJV) “They are my joy and my heart’s delight.” (NLT)

After the finding comes the feeding. Many get new Bibles but never read them. This is like filling your cupboard with food but not eating the food. Some do not eat the Word because of poor appetites. They have filled their soul with the junk food of the world (such as TV), and so they are about as interested in the preaching and teaching of the Word as children are in vegetables.

Pleasure.

“Thy Word was unto me the joy and rejoicing of mine heart.”

If you get into the Word faithfully and “eat” the Word spiritually, you will find it a great delight to your soul. But most people have little delight in the Word. They are like those Jeremiah spoke to whom “the word of the Lord is unto them a reproach, they have no delight in it” (Jeremiah 6:10).

Placement.

“I am called by thy name.” (KJV) “I bear your name.” (NLT)

This means Jeremiah was called into service for God. If you are devoted to the Word of God, you will have a place in the service of God.  Being devoted to the Word of God is absolutely essential if you want to truly serve God. Unfortunately, many churches and mission boards ignore this basic truth. This results in workers without a message and hence without value.

2017 Costa Rica Mission Trip

“And a vision appeared to Paul in the night: a man of Macedonia was standing there, urging him and saying, ‘Come over to Macedonia and help us.’ And when Paul had seen the vision, immediately we sought to go on into Macedonia, concluding that God had called us to preach the gospel to them.” Acts 16:9-10
‘Hagalo ya’…Do it now!
‘Hagaloya’ is a Spanish word that means ‘Do it now’. ‘Hagaloya’ seems to resonate in Paul’s ears.
Scripture describes him as a man of action, sensitive to the leading of the Holy Spirit. “Christ’s love controls us.” 2 Co 5:14
My son Pierre and I are so glad for the open door God allow this coming fall to go help physically and spiritually this Baptist church. Pastor Jose wrote “Our congregation is currently averaging 125, we just baptized our last six new converts… This brings joy to the leaders since the vision for our church planting (2013) has been since the beginning to witness to our community with the Gospel of salvation and to edify our new believers so we all become fully developed disciples of Jesus Christ.”
Pierre will help building some Sunday school classrooms as well as cabinets for the restrooms and kitchen area. I will be their main speaker for the church first Missions Conference in October.
Pierre and I realize that alone we cannot do it. We invite you to be part of the Team. Your prayers and financial support will help us achieve the goals.

Searching Mission

The blog Cafegospel.me was born in Costa Rica during the first missionary trip. On July 8, 204 the next phase will take place, with my wife (Ginette) and my youngest son (Brian) we will land in San Jose Int. Airport. My youngest daughter by the name of Ruth is already there learning Spanish.

God gave me a verse theme that is found in Luke 15:4 “Wouldn’t you leave the 99 to go and search for the lost one until you find it?” So, I invite you to follow us starting July 8, 2014. I was reminded this morning not to trust in my own strength. In 2 Co 3:5- 6 Paul wrote “Not that we are adequate in ourselves to consider anything as if it were coming from ourselves, but our adequacy is from God, who made us adequate to be servants of a new covenant not based on the letter but on the Spirit.” Another translation put it this way “It is not that we think we are qualified to do anything on our own. Our qualification comes from God.” NLT
